High Protein Diets

When people talk about high protein diets what they really mean is "low carb diets". The reason for the confusion is that when dieting we usually only consider 3 things: fat, protein and carbohydrates. So it makes sense that if you reduce one item on this list, you must increase one of the others, i.e. low carb diet plans = high protein diets.

The basis of this type of diet is to reduce your daily consumption of carbohydrates, replacing them with a higher percentage of protein and fatty foods. The body converts fat into substances called 'ketones' that provide it with energy instead of the more usual carbs. This is supposed to encourage rapid weight loss.

High protein diets are attractive to some dieters as they allow you to eat large quantities of those types of food that conventional diets normally banish. Who'd have thought that you could eat loads of meat and fatty foods and still get thin? But this is not without its problems, and some claim that problems with these diet plans can cause a risk to your health.
